      Frequently asked questions

      Is the llms.txt generator free?

      Yes. It requires no sign-in, and everything happens in your browser. We do not store what you type.

      What does the validator check?

      That the file starts with a level-1 heading, is longer than 50 characters, and has at least one Markdown link, as Lighthouse requires. It also checks what llmstxt.org recommends: a blockquote summary, sections with level-2 headings, full URLs, and https.

      Where should llms.txt go?

      At the root of your domain, so it opens at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. It should be served as plain text.

      Does llms.txt help me in Google?

      No. Google has said that Search does not use the file. It can help AI agents and developer tools find their way, and it is one of the audits in the Lighthouse Agentic Browsing category.
